About Marty Shults
After recently moving back to Ft Collins, Colorado I decided to start the process of making my passion for travel become my lifes work. This website is part of that process.
I guess my love for travel started way back when I was 6 years old and my family took a six week trip in a camper. We visited Gettysburg, Washington DC, KittyHawk and many other places on our way from Ohio to north Georgia where we were moving. I loved the life of being on the road not knowing what lay around the next curve or where we
would sleep that night. I loved meeting new people everywhere we went and this continues to be part of my motivation for travel.
After graduating from high school I made my first trip abroad to Europe. I met up with high school friends, traveled around England and down through France in a VW caravan. Fell in love with the south and bid them farewell. This is where my life really started to change. Being left in a place where I had no friends or relatives and didn't speak the language was scary and extremely liberating. After spending a couple weeks in Nice I took off using my two month Eurail Pass to visit new friends in Germany and continued on all over Europe before returning back to England.
A couple years later I went back to England to study at Cambridge for a semester and stay on and work for a year in Chester. Towards the end of my stay there I bought a two month InterRail Card and traveled again all over Europe, this time to some places I was unable to get to before. Most of my time was spent in Spain, Greece, Yugoslavia and Turkey.
After returning to the states I started working alot and international travel stopped but my road trips around the US increased. I was introduced to rock climbing and all of my free time was spent driving to new climbing areas. This lead me to Colorado where I finished my degree in Int. Soil & Crop Sciences with the intention of joining the Peace Corps. But, my wife and I had never traveled overseas together and we decided to forgo the Peace Corps for a trip around the world.
We bought an open-ended ticket that we could pick up as we went. The first leg was to Australia via a stop in Fiji and New Zealand. The next leg required us to get to Bangkok overland through, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and finally Thailand. Fly from Bangkok to Nepal via Bangladesh, overland through India to Bombay then fly to Greece via a stop in Egypt. Then fly to England and back home.
When we returned home we were detemined that we would travel as much as possible. To that end we have returned to SE Asia again for a 6 month stay and many shorter trips to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
Now that we have a son we want him to grow up seeing the world and experiencing all that it has to offer.
